4 things - you should - be able to do
Here are some easy assessments (barring a specific injury or issue) that can provide a good picture of your current health and predictor of your future longevity……
1. Walk Up 4 Flights of Stairs in Under 45 Seconds
Walk (don't run) up four flights of stairs. (60 steps
No stopping and resting.
Anything UNDER 45 seconds is GOOD.
AROUND 60 seconds means you might have some WORK TO DO.
Anything OVER 90 seconds and, well, you may want to make a DOCTOR's appointment.
2. Measure Your Belly (Men) /Hip and Waist (Women)
(Men): If the circumference of your waist measures more than half your height…… you're not where you should be.
(Women): Measure the circumference of your hips at the widest part and your waist at the narrowest point. Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. A healthy waist-to-hip ratio is less than 0.8.
A failing measurement /ratio likely indicates TOO MUCH FAT stored inside the abdominal cavity and around your INTERNAL ORGANS.
Which can lead to dying in an assortment of unpleasant ways.
3. Do 40 (Men) / 25 (Women) Good Push-Ups
Do one set of as many unbroken push-ups as you can with good form (chest to floor every rep).
The test is over as soon as you fail to get another full rep, or if you have to take a 2-3 second break to get another rep.
Passing this is a good indicator of living another 10 years.
Those who can do LESS THAN 10 are far more likely to not make it another decade
4. Run a Mile in Exactly 10 Minutes
Run one mile on the treadmill with the speed set at 6 miles per hour. The goal is to be able to SUSTAIN that exact pace for 10 full minutes.
So........ there are 4 pretty easy measures to tell you where you stand.
The goal is simply to be able to pass these tests with relative ease and ALWAYS be able to pass them as we age.
If you can't pass these tests it's most likely because you're too heavy. This is something you can and should fix.
Hope everyone can pass these without breaking a sweat....if not....
please give me a shout if there is anything I can do to help!
